Nicknamed the "Cher of Country", Crystal Gayle is a legendary pop-country crossover star with an unforgettable voice. The younger sister of Loretta Lynn, Gayle was the first ever country-pop singer to go platinum and achieved a record 20 no.1s on the country chart. She continues to tour and make music and has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

The Woman in Me

Crystal was born Brenda Gail Webb on the 9th of January 1951 in Paintsville, Kentucky. She grew up in Wabash with her big sister, country superstar Loretta Lynn, who changed her name to Crystal Gayle.

Famed for her floor-length long dark hair and piercing blue eyes, Crystal's first hit was "I've Cried the Blue (Right Out of My Eyes)" in 1974. She went on to enjoy a stream of hit singles and albums throughout the 70s, peaking in 1977 with the release of We Must Believe in Magic. It was the album that spawned the worldwide smash "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue."

Crystal followed up with a steady string of hits, including "Talking in Your Sleep", "Half the Way", and "Ready for the Times to Get Better." Chart success continued into the ‘80s with hits like "The Woman in Me" and "Too Many Lovers" and recorded the enduringly popular duet, "You and I" with Eddie Rabbitt.

And it was another duet that gave her one of her most memorable number 1s. "Makin' Up for Lost Time", a duet with Gary Morris, was the love theme for prime-time soap Dallas and was another big crossover hit. It led to actual soap stardom when she appeared on the daytime soap Another World for a week in 1987.

Crystal Gayle has broken boundaries in her career, becoming the first country star to tour China in the late ‘70s. It was the decade she met her husband, Vassilios "Bill" Christos Gatzimos, and they've been married since 1971. Crystal is a mother of two who currently lives in Nashville and enjoys spending time with her grandson. In 2017, she was honoured by the Grand Ole Opry in recognition of her achievements.
